开放大学与普通高校远程继续教育学院是我国远程学历教育市场上的主要竞争对手。以开放大学与普通高校远程继续教育学院的在校生为研究对象，通过访谈与问卷方式研究学生的升学选择行为，将影响学生升学选择的因素分为学生自身因素和院校因素等两大类因素。研究表明，开放大学与高校远程继续教育学院的学生在人口统计学特征上并无明显差异；院校招生推广方式显著不同，是造成学生升学选择差异的主要因素。
